Confused fastcompo rambling

scene.se has announced a fastcompo for Monday, and I'm trying to put something together. Not sure yet if I'll succeed, but it's actually going rather well and the worst thing that can happen is that I get a bunch of engine bugs fixed. Here's a screenshot of what it won't look like.

As for music, I have now not one but two musicians willing to work with me on it. Not sure how to decide which one I should choose, but there are several days to go, so I'll worry about that later.

More annoyingly, my primary machine has a broken keyboard, so I'm working on my four year old iBook with a (wait for it) Mobility Radeon 7500. If the deadline wasn't less than a week away, I'd be trying to see it as an opportunity to optimise the engine. As it is, I'm seeing it as an oppurtunity for grey hairs.

Even though I haven't been able to finish a demo for quite a while now, mostly due to my ridiculously low tolerance for stress, I have been coding away on engine and tools for the entire time, and it really does show. Effect coding now feels nothing so much as C++ lego building, since there are so many ready to use classes. I could almost imagine slapping a GUI on it and getting a full demo editor.

I don't want to do that, though, as I enjoy party coding far too much. I am in the process of making a demo editor, but it'll be more like a sequencer, allowing timeline and parameter editing for coded effects. Although the full editors like werkzeug and addict are very cool indeed, I don't want to go there (yet). Perhaps I'm just oldfashioned (which is sort of funny, as I remember when people thought me radical and unserious for using C++, hardware acceleration and modern OS API:s).

Oh well, I hope this one gets finished, and in any case, the next stop is a ten year anniversary demo (HyperCube was founded in 1997).
